News: Breguet And Ochs Und Junior End The Year In Style

Two brands who ended the year with intriguing new launches are Breguet and Ochs Und Junior. One is the hallowed company founded by the godfather of horology in the 18th century; the other celebrates its 17th birthday in 2023. Aesthetically, they’re also as far apart as a Mondrian to a Monet, as are their price points. Both their latest releases, however, boast a certain asymmetric perfection and are proof that variety is alive and well in modern watchmaking. Long may it continue…

Breguet Classique 9075 Chinese New Year Edition

The Chinese New Year begins on January 22nd, with the volatile tiger being replaced by the more docile rabbit—hopefully a good omen! Breguet is celebrating the occasion with a special-edition watch for the Chinese market, which is limited to a mere eight pieces. This 18k white-gold, time-only model, part of its premium Classique collection, boasts a blue grand feu enamel dial on which are engraved six white rabbits, set around a central floral-inspired motif. Eighty-eight diamonds give the bezel and lugs some glamorous sparkle, while the ‘pomme’ hands are a signature Breguet touch.

It's powered by Breguet’s self-winding in-house caliber 591C whose power reserve is a rather scant 28 hours—though to be fair, this is the kind of watch you bring out for a one-off special occasion then lock away in the safe.

Ochs Und Junior Settimana Seasons Capsule Collection

The quirky Swiss watchmaker Ochs Und Junior has unveiled the newest addition to its Settimana range with a capsule collection of four pastel-coloured delights, representing the four seasons.

The Settimana line was designed by brand founder Ludwig Oechslin and was originally released back in 2006. It works as a weekday watch that brings the focus to the seven days of the week by way of a rotating dot located between 1 o’clock (Monday) to 7 o’clock (Sunday).

All four watches come with a 36mm or 40mm grade-five titanium case with visible machining and milling traces. The brass dial is characteristically minimalist, with that unique weekday dot design, and each watch comes on an understated handmade black leather strap with a titanium pin buckle. Inside these watches is an automatic Sellita calibre SW 200-1, which has a power reserve of 38 hours.

The baby-pink Spring watch from the capsule is anticipated for release in late February or early March 2023—just in time for Spring itself. If you want the entire collection, though, you need to hang on a little longer until March 31st.
