News: Ralph Lauren Stays Classy With the Polo 67

Since it first entered the watch game around 13 years ago, Ralph Lauren has had mixed results at infusing its timepieces with the brand’s casual-yet-luxurious All-American Ivy League style.

With its Polo Vintage 67 it’s hit the spot. This time-only model in stainless steel recalls designs from the 1920s and 1930s thanks to its slender ‘poire’ hour hand, lacquered Arabic hour markers and small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock. Enhancing the vintage look is a subtly stepped case polished in a way that makes it look old yet unworn—distressed with finesse!

At 40mm the case size is a concession to modern tastes, but it’s still relatively small compared to a lot of contemporary dress watches. Some thought has also gone into the Onion-style crown—nicely grippable, unlike many vintage pieces where you almost need a tweezers to wind it.

Aptly, it runs on a manual-wind movement, which also keeps the case thickness down. Ralph Lauren has previously used various movements in its watches, from COSC-certified Sellitas to Jaeger-Le Coultre’s calibres—yes, really!—but this one runs on a La Joux-Perret caliber 7380, which has a superb power-reserve of 90 hours.

It has an exhibition caseback and comes with the option of a dark brown or black bund strap if you want to team it with your favourite distressed-leather Ralph Lauren flight jacket.
